Notification/Sensor Issue

With sensor issues we can generally solve the problem quickly.

Select the issue that most closely matches what you’re seeing.

Repeat “Door Left Open” Alerts

While we work to solve the issue, turn off the alert so we don’t get repeat alerts
Smart Life → Garage Door → Settings (bottom right) → Door Left Open Alert (off)

Most Common Cause:

  • Sensors being too far apart when the door is closed typically causes this issue. The sensors need to be 1/4″ (0.25 inches) apart or closer when the door is closed.
If the sensors are too far apart, the door always thinks it “open” causing the alert to repeatedly occur.

Solution:

  1. First Test Within the App:
    • Are you able to move the magnetic sensor close enough to show as “closed” within the app? Sometimes as close to touching is best and the most reliable.
    • Move the magnetic sensor close, to the point of touching the wired sensor to see if the app shows the door as closed.
  2. Reposition Sensors:
    • If you can get the app to show “door closed”, then the sensors are working and just need to be positioned closer.
  3. If working, then turn the alerts back on!

Sensors are touching, but door still shows as Open:

Examples of good sensor installations:

No Open/Close Notifications

Sensors must be installed correctly:

  1. The sensors need to be installed and you need to be able to see the door open/close within the app when the door opens and closes.
    • If you’re not seeing this, then view the item below named “App Not Detecting Door Open/Close”

Fully Uninstall and Reinstall Smart Life app:

The full uninstall has the highest success rate of all the methods.

Check notifications are all turned on:

  1. System level notifications
    1. Apple:
Settings App > Scroll way down to “Smart Life” > Notifications > Make sure all settings are on
    2. Android:
Settings App > Apps > Smart Life (you may need to select “See all XX apps”) > Notifications > Make sure all are on
  2. SmartLife app level notifications:
    1. At the SmartLife Home Screen select “Me” > Gear icon (top right) > App Notification. Notifications should be on and enabled.
  3. Device level notifications:
    1. Select the garage door to check > Settings (Bottom Right) > Open Notification/Close Notification should be on.

If none of these work: Contact Us and we will get you up and running!

Do I need the sensors?

Technically, No, but…

What happens if I don’t use the sensors:

  • No open/close alerts.
    • Without the sensors the door won’t know if it’s open or closed so no alerts.
  • The door will always think it’s open or close (depending on if the sensors are apart or together).
    • If the door always thinks its open, you’ll always have to use the “close” command with voice control (Siri, Google, Alexa).
  • You’ll want to turn off “Door Left Open Alerts” if the sensor will be disconnected or left apart.
  • Garage door animation will always show open or closed (irregardless of position).

We recommend the sensors being installed (see our video on it here: Sensor Installation Video)
